Entry by Cheryl Lafferty for - THE conTEST OF TRUE LOVE.

First, there was one, lonely and free,

until April of 87 when Lady found me.
I took her in and that made us two,

what joy I had with the addition of you.

Then I had to find us a home
where you had plenty of grass and room to roam.
Still something was missing, you needed a pal

and I said to myself, "Oh, what the hell."

A little ball of fur, Bonkers, made three

who made us a happy family.
How wonderful he was right from the start

when he wrapped his furry paws around my heart.

Then a litter was left almost at our door

which soon would give us a family of four.
Bonkers you kept them from being cold

so we decided to keep one for our fold.

Noodles, my beautiful Maine Coon Cat,

it seems we pulled you right out of a hat.
Then my lovebug came into our lives

who brought our family up to five.

Oreo, the cat who never hisses,

just loves to give hugs and kitty-cat kisses.
But it seems I still had love for another

when Domino came looking for a mother.

This little bit of a cat made us six, he runs and plays to get his kicks.
Then along came CFIDS, a nasty disease,

that took away our life of ease.
I found Dr. Peterson at a beautiful lake

so decided a new home we had to make.

In March of 98 we hit the road,

the six of us and the rest of our load.
We were very happy and did our best

but around the corner hid a monster called "STRESS".

A few months later we found

life's not all glitter and gold.
We have to move and lose our home,

College park was being sold.

I dug in my heels to put up a fight

not knowing it would cost me one of my lights.
In 1999, the 21st of May,

someone stole my Noodles away.

My beautiful cat I could never find,

I just pray whoever has you is being kind.
January 1st of 2001,

I thought I was losing another one.

Bonkers got sick, would just sit and stare;

you gave your Momma quite a scare.
Drs. Peck and Taylor made you well

but happiness would be for a very short spell.

It was just a warning for who would know

that two weeks later, Lady would go.
Although we missed her, we did our best

though Momma needed a lot of rest.

Now two months later comes Easter Day

when God would take my Bonkers away.
I miss you so much my precious ones,

my heart is broken and life's no longer fun.

Our home is too quiet now with just us three,

Oreo, Domino and me.
I always had my dreams to be a wife

but realize now you were the loves of my life.

Friends and family help ease the sorrow,

but I know that on some day of tomorrow,
That we six again will live on forever

when we cross that Rainbow Bridge together...

    1. Thank you. To this day, I still remember them and still have their things even though the dogs died within 3 months of each other in 2001.
